About Texas

Texas is the second-largest state in the United States, both by area and population. Known as "The Lone Star State," Texas has a rich history that includes time as an independent republic before joining the Union in 1845 as the 28th state.

The state's geography ranges from deserts and plains in the west to forests and coastline in the east, encompassing six distinct geographic regions. Major cities include Houston, San Antonio, Dallas, Austin, and Fort Worth — all among the 15 largest cities in the country.
